Your steps, your goal, and a year of history

ClinicalTools reads your steps from Apple Health — no extra battery drain — and turns them into a daily goal ring, a week view, long-range charts and a set of badges that make 10,000 steps a habit rather than a chore.

Free forever. No subscription, no account, no ads. Requires iOS 17 or later on iPhone or iPad.

Why track step counter in ClinicalTools

Your iPhone already counts your steps. What it doesn't do well is show you a goal, a streak, and how this month compares with last spring. ClinicalTools reads the step data Apple Health already has and presents it the way a coach would.

The Today view shows a progress ring toward your goal (10,000 by default, adjustable to whatever your doctor or your knees suggest), the remaining steps, and the current week at a glance. The History view goes further back — 30 days, 90 days, a year or all time — with your daily average, your best day ever, and for each month the number of days you hit the goal.

Because the data comes from Apple Health, everything your Apple Watch or phone has recorded is included from day one — no waiting to build a history.

Three steps, every time.

1

Allow Apple Health access

On first launch, grant read access to step count. Historical steps appear immediately.

2

Set your goal

Keep 10,000 or choose your own number. The ring, badges and goal-day counts all follow it.

3

Watch the streak grow

Hit the goal on consecutive days to build a streak and unlock badges.

🔋

Uses Apple Health data

No separate pedometer running in the background — the app reads what Health already recorded.

For walkers, post-op recovery, and doctor's orders

A step target is one of the most common pieces of lifestyle advice a doctor gives, from managing blood pressure to recovering after surgery. The long-range charts are particularly useful for seeing whether a new routine — a lunchtime walk, a standing desk — actually changed your average. Pair it with the Weight Log and Blood Pressure tools to see the effect.

Step Counter — common questions

Is the step counter free?

Yes. Step Counter, its history charts and badges are free, with no ads or subscription.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. Your iPhone counts steps on its own when it is with you. If you wear an Apple Watch, its steps are included through Apple Health.

Will it drain my battery?

No. ClinicalTools reads step data from Apple Health rather than running its own pedometer, so it adds no background activity.

Can I change the daily goal?

Yes. The default is 10,000 steps and you can set any number; the ring, monthly goal counts and badges update accordingly.

Does step history sync to my iPad?

Step data stays on the device that recorded it, since it comes from that device's Health data. Your iPad shows its own Health data.
